Become a Reading Recovery Teacher or Teacher Leader

Reading Recovery® uses a three-tier level of curriculum for its professional development training.

  1. University Training Centers train Reading Recovery Trainers.
  2. Reading Recovery Trainers provide initial training and continuing professional development to coaches who are called Teacher Leaders.
  3. Teacher Leaders work at a sponsoring site or district and provide initial training and continuing professional development to Reading Recovery Teachers.

Applications for Teacher Leader preparation

A candidate for teacher leader preparation must be sponsored by a district or consortium of districts that is interested in establishing a licensed teacher training site affiliated with a Reading Recovery university training center. Established teacher training sites may also sponsor additional teacher leaders, as needed.

An applicant for teacher leader preparation must hold a master’s degree.
