Become a Reading Recovery Teacher or Teacher Leader
Reading Recovery® uses a three-tier level of curriculum for its professional development training.
- University Training Centers train Reading Recovery Trainers.
- Reading Recovery Trainers provide initial training and continuing professional development to coaches who are called Teacher Leaders.
- Teacher Leaders work at a sponsoring site or district and provide initial training and continuing professional development to Reading Recovery Teachers.
Teacher Leader preparation
Applications for Teacher Leader preparation
A candidate for teacher leader preparation must be sponsored by a district or consortium of districts that is interested in establishing a licensed teacher training site affiliated with a Reading Recovery university training center. Established teacher training sites may also sponsor additional teacher leaders, as needed.
An applicant for teacher leader preparation must hold a master’s degree.

Applying to be a Reading Recovery teacher
Candidates for teacher training must be sponsored by a school district and hold a state-issued teaching license. A minimum of a bachelor’s degree is required.
Sponsoring school districts apply to the nearest licensed teacher training site for an application.
